Taking medications can affect your appetite.
For example, some medication reactions may:
- Suppress or stimulate your appetite
- Affect how you taste or smell food
- Cause an unpleasant aftertaste
- Cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation or diarrhea
In some cases, drug and food interactions may also affect the way you absorb certain nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals. That’s why it’s very important to follow your pharmacist’s recommendations as to how to take medications (for example, with food or on an empty stomach).
Try Ensure® if your appetite is decreased. It is important to prevent weight loss as this can affect your recovery. You can take Ensure® in small amounts with your medications. This is a great way to get the extra nutrition you need despite a small appetite. However, since some medications are less effective when taken with food, confirm this with your pharmacist first.
